The much anticipated Supatilt Wild West Tour for Late Model Sedans gets underway at the Perth Motorplex on December 26th & 27th with an awesome field set to do battle at the world class venue.
Heading the nominations is one of the all time greats of American Late Model racing, Steve Francis. Francis hails fromAshlandKentuckyand in 1997 the governor of theCommonwealthofKentuckyrecognized Steve as an “official and honorary” Kentucky Colonel.
Francis is coming off a strong season of racing in theUSwhere he finished fourth in the standings of the Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series. Francis took out a number of big races during the 2012 season including the $40 000 to win Knoxville Late Model Nationals held in Iowa and the Topless 100 held at Batesville Raceway Arkansas.
He is also the current Australian Late Model Champion winning the title at Sydney Speedway last January.
Joining Francis down under is young eighteen year old Devin Moran fromDresdenOhio. Moran is the son of legendary American Late Model driver Donnie Moran and will be making his second visit toWestern Australia. Moran will be racing for well known Sydney speedway identity Ross Nicastri in a two car assault on the wild west tour with Nicastri’s son Ben Nicastri also racing in the west.
Ben Nicastri is the current South Australian champion after winning that title in November against a strong field at Borderline Speedway inMountGambier.
South Australian Matt Crimmins will also make the long trip across the nullabor to race at the Perth Motorplex. Crimmins is using the Wild West Tour as a way of getting in some much needed seat time ahead of the National title to be held at Quit Bunbury Speedway in January.
A huge contingent of Western Australian drivers will be in action over the nights at the Perth Motorplex. Defending Pro Dirt Late Model Series champion Jamie Oldfield already has two round wins during the early stages of the 2012/2013 series and will be looking to continuing his strong form at the Perth Motorplex.
Multiple National Champion Brad Blake took out the last round of the Hoosier Racing Tire Pro Dirt Series held at Margaret River Speedway last Saturday Night. Blake was impressive in winning the seventh round of the 2012/2013 series and looks to have found a lot of car speed out of his Bunbury Honda & KIA Rocket.
Current Western Australia champion Warren Oldfield has also had a good start to the season and won the fourth round of the Pro Dirt Series at Kalgoorlie Speedway.
Matt Goodlad has been very impressive the last few rounds of the Pro Dirt Series including finishing runner up to Blake at MargaretRiver.
Current Perth Motorplex track champion Jay Cardy will be anxious to have a better run than he did last week at Margaret River after being sidelined early in the night with rear end damage.
Craig Vosbergen will be back in action during the Wild West Tour with the car that took him to the win at the Bunbury round of the Pro Dirt Series. Vosbergen destroyed his spare car at Margaret River last Saturday night in what was a very nasty accident.
The Late Models will contest two 25 lap feature races over the two nights of action at the Perth Motorplex with the ground pounding sedans set to put on a show for the big holiday crowd.
Racing gets underway from 6pm both nights with ticket and event details available from www.motorplex.com.au.
The Late Model Racing Australia 2013 Hoosier calendar will be on sale at the Perth Motorplex along with Diecast cars, T-Shirts, Hoodies and Stubby Holders. Be sure to catch up with Lee Oldfield in the LMRA merchandise trailer.
