WA Championship this Saturday Night at Bunbury
Although the silly season will mean winding down for most people, for the Late Model Sedan division it is about to get busy as they contest their Western Australian championship at Quit Bunbury Speedway this Saturday night, the 28th December 2013.
With the WA title on the line, the drivers will give it their all to get their name etched onto that trophy and there are plenty of drivers in the field who can make it happen.
Defending WA Champion Craig Vosbergen will start as the red hot favourite, having won the previous Pro Dirt Series round at the Quit Bunbury Speedway in late November and has dominated the early part of the season in Western Australia. Vosbergen has won this race twice previously so he knows what it takes to win this event.
That being said the other drivers aren’t going to let him have it easily, with one family of brothers in particular determined to greet the chequers first. Warren Oldfield in his Ultratune Morley #15 is one of the few drivers to have beaten Vosbergen this season, and he will be looking to win his second WA title this weekend. Jason Oldfield is also in the field and could be towards the pointy end come feature time if everything falls his way.
The third Oldfield making a surprise entry this weekend is Jamie Oldfield, nominating to pilot the immaculate Better Trailers #7 machine for the ACT domiciled Scott McPherson. This certainly adds some spice to the field, and we have seen on many occasions that Jamie can drive anything with wheels and is always a contender every time he hits the track.
One man who has owned this event in the past is Bunbury’s Brad Blake. Blake has been the Western Australian champion eight times previously and has shown a lot of early season form albeit without much luck, If every goes Blake’s way this weekend don’t be surprised to see the Bunbury Honda & Kia Mastersbilt in victory lane.
The field is stacked with big names including former national champions Brad Ludlow and Marc Giancola,.
Add in drivers the ilk of Jay Cardy who has finished on the podium twice previously in the WA Title, Lee Watt, who won his first ever Pro Dirt feature race earlier this season and Michael Holmes, who has been consistently fast at every event so far this summer, not to mention a stack of other drivers and the racing this weekend is going to be fast and furious.
On behalf of the Late Model Racing Western Australia, we wish you and your families a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Travel safely and we will see you on the 28th at Quit Bunbury Speedway!
