Topless Time

After a good break for the local cars to regroup from the hugely successful Di Candilo Steel City Invasion Tour and to also allow a number of competitors to head across the Nullabor to compete in the Australian Late Model Title, the Late Models are finally back in action here in Western Australian this Saturday night!

Once again it will be a huge event, with it not only being a round of the XLI Pro Dirt Series, but also thanks to John Di Candilo from Di Candilo Steel City, it will also be the Topless event with a massive $4,000 to win on the line!

Again this event, to be held at the Perth Motorplex this Saturday night, has attracted a stellar field of nominations, with twenty two cars signaling their intentions to compete in this now annual race meeting.

For this event, drivers will not however be going traditionally topless as some may suggest: instead they will be removing their roof panels! This gives fans unprecedented views of the drivers doing their thing behind the wheel, which is further enhanced at the Perth Motorplex with their raised terrace seating and adds some new excitement to the already awesome spectacle of Late Model racing.

Having a look at the nominations received and it is anyone’s guess as to who will standing on the top step of the podium come the end of the forty lap feature. Ryan Halliday had claimed three feature wins so far this season up until he stepped out of his seat for American Jason Fitzgerald, so he will be keen to grab a win his first time back, while names such as Brad Blake, Warren Oldfield and Australia #4 Kye Blight have each claimed one win and will be keen to grab another this time out.

Blake in particular will be hoping for some more strong results to hold his lead in the XLI Pro Dirt Series where he is currently just twenty points clear of second placed Jay Cardy. The duo, who both travelled east and came home with the Australia #8 and Australia #7 respectively, can be expected to fight it out in close quarters once again while third placed Warren Oldfield will be hopeful of bouncing back from a disappointing trip east where he did significant motor damage early on that out him out for the weekend.

Veronica McCann was another who did major damage to her #50 machine at the Title event and the team is in a race against time to get the car ready for this weekend’s show, while others like Michael Holmes, Paul Stubber, Simon McNab and Matt Goodlad will be keen to build on what they learnt last weekend back on their home stomping grounds.

Mick Comley and Daniel Ameduri will pick up their rookie of the year battle once again while other rookies in Joe Chalmers, Gary Higgs and Aaron Hancock all took the chance to practice at the Perth Motorplex tonight without their roofs and will be keen to do it all again on Saturday.

Add in a whole host of other names and the Di Candilo Steel City Topless race will be a must see for any race fan, so make sure you bring someone to hold onto this weekend for a special event!
