Time for a Road Trip!

This coming weekend will be a big one for Late Model fans, with the 2022/23 Pro Dirt Series hitting the road for the first time this season for a huge double header, Friday night racing at Esperance Toyota Speedway, followed by Saturday night at Kalgoorlie International Speedway!
Both tracks have recently become hot spots for Late Model racing, with a number of local competitors hitting the track regularly, and it is pleasing to see so many of them in the fields for this weekend as they make their Pro Dirt debuts!
A solid twenty-four nominations have been received for the weekend’s racing at Esperance (Friday night, presented by the team at SupaFit Seat Covers) and Saturday night at Kalgoorlie (proudly presented by our friends at CTM Recruitment Pty Ltd), including nine of the current top ten in the series points standings, headed by current points leader Warren Oldfield (Oldfield Racing). With a win and a second place in the series so far, Warren is in good form, and having raced at both venues before, will be keen to use that experience to his advantage.
Jamie Oldfield (Oldfield Racing) also has experience at both venues, including a non-series event win at the Esperance venue this time last season where he travelled down to take on the locals and came out best. Finishing seventh and then first in the opening two rounds of the season, along with some solid heat results, sees Jamie second overall on points (just eight markers behind Warren) and he would love to close that gap by the end of the second feature of the weekend.
Defending series champion Brent Vosbergen (Team Vosbergen Racing – TVR) is third overall courtesy of a third and a sixth in the feature races so far this season. Although he may not have the experience of his fellow competitors at this weekend’s venues, he has experience in his corner with father Craig who has previously raced with success at them. Vosbergen was dominant last season, and he would love to recapture that form again this weekend and to begin closing the gap on the Oldfield boys.
Rod Musarra (@TeamRocket) (fourth overall with a fifth and a twelfth), Michael Holmes (Michael Holmes Racing) (fifth with a sixth and a DNF), Joe Chalmers (Team BCM Motorsport:) (sixth after recording a DNF and a third), Veronica McCann (Veronica McCann – Red Hot Racing) (seventh with an eighth and an eleventh), Jay Cardy (Cardy Racing Components) (eighth with a ninth and a thirteenth) and David Boyes (Boyes Motorsport) (tenth with an eleventh and a DNF) are also nominated for this weekend, Boyes with the least distance to travel as opposed to normal as the series finally comes to his home town.
Speaking of hometowns, no less than nine drivers in total are joining the series from either Kalgoorlie or Esperance. Damian Hudson (Hudson Racing Team), Shaun Cubbage and Jeff Pahl (Pahly Racing) are three drivers who have previously raced in rounds of the Pro Dirt Series and we extend a warm welcome back to them, while we welcome a whole host of newbies including Matt Robbins (driving the ex-Ray Leonard machine), Sean Barrett (aboard the ex-Adam Flanagan machine), Ben Strautins (BAS Racing) (in the former Jason Oldfield car), Chad Puleston (in the ex-Damian Hudson machine) and Jamie Goodwin (ECTM Racing) (driving the former Daniel Ameduri #83) into the fold, all of whom will relish the experience of competing against the best of the Pro Dirt Series.
The nominations are rounded out by Pro Dirt Series regulars in Kodee Brown (McCorry Brown Racing Team), Freddy Kinsella (Team Green Racing), Matt Nylander (Nylander Motorsport) and Jason Oldfield (Oldfield Racing) who will also be making the trip, as will regular Winter Series competitor Steve Schofield (DEMON Racecar Fibreglass WA), being joined by Nathan Richards and Peter Mewett (Red dog racing) in making their first appearances for the season.
It will be a massive two-night show and with both venues set to be packed to the rafters, the atmosphere is sure to be electric. If you can’t make the shows, make sure you stay tuned for all the details in the coming week, but if you can, make the trip to both venues because we promise it will be worth it!
Also, stay tuned for details of a competition to be announced shortly from our friends at SupaFit Seat Covers around the Esperance event!
