The “Kentucky Colonel” Steve Francis has continued his dominance of the 2014 Moyle Engines USA Invasion Tour with a resounding victory in the second round at Manjimup Speedway last night (Saturday 4th January 2014).
Francis lead the entire thirty laps in the A main with only his fellow countrymen Steve Casebolt able to keep pace with him in the early laps.
Nineteen cars were on hand for the second round of the Invasion Tour with a couple of teams carrying out repairs on their cars during the day from the previous night at Quit Collie Speedway.
Western Australian champion Marc Giancola who was one of the drivers fixing mechanical damage from night one barely did a lap in anger at Manjimup with the issues from Collie continuing. Giancola would not start the A main.
Francis made his intentions known early in the night with a resounding victory in his opening heat race passing his fellow countrymen Jeremy Payne for the lead in the final laps.
Steve Casebolt put the disappointment of round one at Collie behind him with a strong win in heat two with Ozmine Racing teammates Francis & Michael Holmes winning heats three & four respectively.
Two dash races were held with Steve Francis easily winning the A Dash from Casebolt and Brad Blake.
Lee Watt brought his Choc Chill Rocket Chassis home first in the B Dash from Koran Atkinson and Jay Cardy.
Eighteen cars would start the main event on a perfectly manicured racing surface with Francis leading the early laps with Casebolt in hot pursuit. Jeremy Payne would be shuffled back a few positions as the race settling into a pattern.
Very quickly Francis would be lapping cars with ease as he flew around the fast wide open Manjimup Speedway. Casebolt would begin to lose ground to the leader & fall into the clutches of Brad Blake with Craig Vosbergen working his way into fourth place.
Casebolt would lose second place to Blake as Jason & Warren Oldfield tussled with Jeremy Payne for the minor placing’s.
A yellow light brought about the one and only stoppage for the race on lap twenty eight with Jamie Moon slowing on the top of the racetrack. Moon would restart after pulling to the infield while Steve Casebolt’s podium run came to an end when he took his USA33 Toolmart Mastersbilt to the infield during the caution period.
Francis would survive the green white chequer to win the second round of the Invasion tour from Blake, Vosbergen, Jason Oldfield & Warren Oldfield rounding the out the top five.
American Jeremy Payne brought his damaged USA186 home in sixth place from Matt Goodlad, Phil Zuidema, Lee Watt, Michael Holmes, Koran Atkinson, Jay Cardy, Scott McPherson and Jamie Moon rounding out the finishers.
Brad Ludlow & Brad Boley would fail to go the distance in the main event with Jason Moyle a non -starter with mechanical issues.
Francis once again was elated in victory lane, “Great to win again I’m really enjoying driving this car for Michael Holmes Racing as they give me a great car to work with. Hopefully we can clean sweep this Invasion tour with a win at Ellenbrook”.
The final round of the 2014 Moyle Engines USA Invasion Tour will be held at Ellenbrook Speedway in the Northern outskirts of Perth with racing getting underway at 4pm.
