The ‘Southern Shootout’, held at Esperance Speedway Saturday February 25, was the 11th Round of the R2C Competition Filters Pro Dirt Series.
It had been many years since the V8 powered Dirt Late Models last visited the coastal town as part of the Pro Dirt Series, making it a welcome return to the small clay track.
The crowd was witness to Jamie Oldfield pushing his new Mastersbilt to the limit, to easily win the first Heat from Warren Oldfield and Jay Cardy.
Matt Goodlad was glad to be back in his home town, showing his skill in front of a large crowd to win the second Heat, followed by Warren Oldfield and Jamie Oldfield.
The two lap knock out Dash for pole position was won in spectacular fashion by Jamie Oldfield who showed no fear running the high line around his brother Warren in a move that had the crowd cheering the R2C Series leader on to the finish.
The Feature was led from start to finish by Jamie Oldfield, who could not be caught, even when a restart mid race bunched the field back up. Jamie was still was able to pull away and win by a very comfortable margin from his brother Warren. Michael Holmes managed to grab third place right on the finish line from Jay Cardy, and they were followed home by Matt Goodlad, David Nylander, and Dale Clark.
The Oldfield’s Esperance result has given them a solid lead in the R2C Competition Filters Pro Dirt Series. With only one round left in the series it will be extremely hard for anyone to knock the brothers off the top two spots on the leader board.
The final round of the R2C Competition Filters Pro Dirt Series is scheduled for the Perth Motoplex Saturday March 24.
