This weekend will see the Late Model brigade head down South for the first time this season, with Manjimup Speedway playing host to Round Four of the XLI Pro Dirt Series.
A good field of fifteen drivers have nominated for the show, which will be Manjimup’s opening event for the season, and with the entire top ten in the XLI Pro Dirt Series point score nominated, we are sure to have action right from the very first green flag.
In the three rounds thus far we have had three different winners, and all three are nominated for this weekend. Brad Blake claimed the opening round win at Ellenbrook in early October, then backed this up with another podium finish not long ago to be leading the overall series points coming into this round.
Ryan Halliday claimed round two a few weeks back at the Motorplex and is keen for another good result in his Longhorn Chassis, while Warren Oldfield has been on fire this season, recording the win last time out and featuring on the podium in the other two events to be second place overall. All three drivers will be keen to bag a swag of points again this weekend.
As always there is of course a whole group of drivers hoping to make their own mark on the series, with Matt Goodlad, Michael Holmes and Veronica McCann all recording solid results to be sitting pretty inside the top six series points. Goodlad is coming off of a podium finish while McCann was an impressive fourth in the last round. Again, all three of these drivers need just a little bit of luck and they too could be knocking on the door for a round win.
Brent Vosbergen had his first event for the season last weekend and came home a solid fifth, something he will be keen to build on this weekend, while Jay Cardy, who currently sits third in the overall XLI Pro Dirt Series point standings, will be hoping to get back on the podium after already making two appearances on it so far this season. Ken Melvin also rejoins the series for the first time since the opening round and will be looking to match it with the big names of the division.
Rookie drivers Daniel Ameduri and Mick Comley, along with second year racer James Batley have also recorded consistent finishes in the opening three rounds and all three will be hoping to get more laps under their belts this weekend and keep bagging those points to keep them in the season points.
Add in names like the improving Willy Powell, the impressive Lee Watt in his immaculately presented #10 machine and the always entertaining Simon McNab and we are sure to have a Showdown in the South West region this Saturday night!
Racing will begin from 6pm, with Hot Laps from 5:30pm. See you there!
