One Last Rumble!

For one last time this season, the rumble of Late Models will be heard Saturday night, this time at the Kalgoorlie International Speedway as they contest the fourth annual Red Dirt Rumble, proudly presented by Auscub Services!

In what will be the last official Late Model race on any calendars across Australia for the 2023/24 season, a solid field of seventeen drivers have signalled their intentions to be part of it.

Headlining the field will be newly minted Australian Champion Joe Chalmers (Team BCM Motorsport:) in his first appearance wearing the #1. Having raced at Kalgoorlie previously and coming into the show as the defending winner of the race, he certainly has it all ahead of him in the quest to make it two in a row.

Of course, he will not be without a challenge, with Michael Holmes (Michael Holmes Racing) just one other big name in the field capable of claiming the win. Fresh off his own Australian Title campaign, where he came home in thirteenth, Holmes has trekked back across the country and will be hoping to end season 2023.34 on a high.

Earlier this season Rod Musarra (Team Rocket) shocked the Late Model fraternity and broke through for his biggest win in Late Models at the Perth Motorplex with a victory in the Late Model Nationals. A pleasing result for the long-time Speedway competitor, but he is keen to add the Red Dirt Rumble to his trophy cabinet this weekend!

Abbey Pickering (All About Racing) also made the Late Model world sit up and take notice a few months ago when she claimed an excellent win at the Albany Speedway and she could well get back on top this weekend at the Kalgoorlie Speedway.

This fast foursome will be joined by a number of other Pro Dirt Series regulars, including Matt Nylander (Nylander Motorsport), who is hoping to put the mechanical issues behind him and Damian Hudson (Hudson Racing Team) who is another back on home turf after his own trip east to contest the Australian Title.

Fellow Pro Dirt regulars Chris Barrow (Barrow Motorsports), looking to round out another big season and Greg Horan (CPR – Chopper Pop Racing), the well-travelled Esperance driver who just keeps showing up and is improving every time, are also in the field and hoping to make like uncomfortable for the rest of their competitors.

Casey Paech is making the trek from Geraldton to be part of the show, just his sixth show ever in Late Models, though he has certainly come on in leaps and bounds. Joining him is Nathan Richards who has done a number of shows this season and will be hoping those laps serve him well at the Kalgoorlie venue.

Mat Robbins (@RobbinsMotorsport) has been incredibly impressive on a local level, recording four feature wins between Esperance and Kalgoorlie. He would love to beat the quality field this Saturday night and make it five, while other Esperance/Kalgoorlie locals in Sean Barrett (Beaumont Motorsports) (three feature wins at Esperance this season), newcomer Aaron Liddell, Ben Strautins (BAS Racing) (also a feature winner at the Esperance Speedway this season) and Jeff Pahl (Pahly Racing) (another with a feature win at Kalgoorlie this season) will be looking for some strong results.

The final nominations in the field are Lionel Kirkby and Shaun Cubbage, both of whom have recently returned to racing after some time out of the seat. The duo have been around for plenty of years, so it shouldn’t take long to get comfortable once again and right back on the pace.

The Rumble is always a great event to be part of, so make sure you get involved at the Kalgoorlie Speedway this Saturday night!
