One for the History Books?

This weekend, the same as the last show where we saw the three Oldfield brothers on the podium and every weekend really, has the potential to rewrite the LMRWA history books.
A solid twenty cars have nominated for Saturday night’s City of Kwinana Westernapolis event at the Perth Motorplex, doubling as Round Three of the Pro Dirt Series presented by the team at McPhee Freight, and with a great lineup of drivers, we should be in for another thriller.
This will be the 167th Perth Motorplex Pro Dirt Series feature event and the 281st Pro Dirt Series feature ever, and while those numbers may not be significant in milestones, they certainly show how important the Series is, and with just thirty drivers having shared those wins, it also shows just how hard it is to finish on the top step of the podium.
Brad Blake has recently shown he still has what it takes to claim the feature win and after a disappointing night at the Motorplex Powerpalooza opening a fortnight ago, will be out to get back on top. Jamie Oldfield (Oldfield Racing) won that last feature ahead of brothers Warren and Jason, with both Jamie and Warren in particular very familiar with the Pro Dirt podium, something they too will be keen to add to.
Defending Pro Dirt Series Champion Brent Vosbergen (Team Vosbergen Racing – TVR) also hasn’t quite had the season he has been after, but the team has putting in the hard yards back in the shed, just like every Pro Dirt Series team does, and they will be hoping for some even better rewards this time out.
Interestingly, you could add the Pro Dirt Series feature victories of Jamie (third overall), Warren (second overall) and Brent (sixth overall) and combined they only have one more win the Blake as the all-time leader. What will this weekend do to that stat?
Jay Cardy (Cardy Racing Components), Jason Oldfield, Michael Holmes (Michael Holmes Racing) and Joe Chalmers (Team BCM Motorsport:) are all Pro Dirt feature race victors also (their combined total coming to ten wins, with all in single figures individually), so they too will be keen to add to their trophy cabinets once again this weekend.
Add in names like Ken Macpherson (KMM – Ken Macpherson Motorsport), Veronica McCann (Veronica McCann – Red Hot Racing) and Rod Musarra (@TeamRocket) who have been knocking on the door of a win for a number of seasons and absolutely anything could happen, including a new name being added to that feature winners list from within the field.
Indeed, this weekend’s field is very similar to last show, with only Greg Horan, David Nylander and Nathan Richards not in the field, replaced by Daniel Ameduri (Ameduri Motorsports) (fresh off returning from a Bali holiday) in the Red dog racing machine, regular visitor in New South Welshman Bruce Mackenzie, and rookie driver Anthony King who this weekend makes his Pro Dirt Series debut.
Speaking of debuts, Abbey Pickering (All About Racing) had an impressive Pro Dirt Series debut at the last show before an unfortunate DNF in the feature, so she will be looking to rectify that this time out, while David Boyes (Boyes Motorsport) makes his Pro Dirt season debut after running out of time to make the trek down from Kalgoorlie at the last show, Damian Hudson (Hudson Racing Team) also joining him this Saturday night after the two had a run at their home track last weekend.
Add in Luke Halliday (CTM Recruitment Racing), Chris Barrow (Barrow Motorsports) and Peter Walker who certainly aren’t there to just make up the numbers and we are sure to be in for another cracker where history is sure to be made once again.
Racing will kick off early this weekend for the McPhee Freight third round, starting at 4.10pm, with the first of the four Late Model heat races kicking off from 6.10pm, while the thirty lap feature event is slated to begin at around 9.40pm.
