The Melvin family has been around racing, and in particular Late Model racing, for a number of years now, and over that time have shown that they have all the abilities needed to succeed in the cut throat sport of speedway racing.
Morgan, driving the #89 machine, did a limited schedule last season, but every time he hit the track he showed some good speed despite bad luck hampering his results.
Younger brother Alec in the #88 car did a few more shows, setting quick time in qualifying at one event and impressing many with some hard charging performances.
During the off season father Ken stepped into the seat of the #42 machine and quickly found his feet, grabbing a feature win at the Perth Motorplex and then competing in all rounds of the Development Series where he continued to develop his skills.
Now with the new season almost upon us, the family owned and run team are hoping just to get to as many shows as possible.
“I’m probably going to do another season similar to the last where I picked and chose” says Morgan. “Work is going to be the killer for both Alec and myself, so it all comes down to when our rosters allow us to race. For me personally I am hoping to race the Motorplex as much as possible.”
Alec is in a similar situation, but father Ken however, is jumping straight in the deep end and is already nominated for the opening round of the XLI Pro Dirt Series at Ellenbrook Speedway on the 7th of October.
“Dad is definitely doing the first round,” says Morgan, “and from there he just wants to see how he performs. Of course he is the same as us boys though: work has to come before pleasure!”
Fingers are now crossed that schedules align and we get the chance to see the Melvin boys on track more often than not. One thing that the trio are determined to make happen is having all three on track at the same time, so let’s hope that this happens at least once during the XLI Pro Dirt Series!
