Jason Oldfield Again!

Jason Oldfield (Oldfield Racing) has tonight continued his great run, claiming his third podium in as many Perth Motorplex shows, and what was his first win of the 2023/24 season in the Westernapolis event that doubled as Round Three of the Pro Dirt Series proudly presented by McPhee Freight!

It was an epic night of racing, with Daniel Ameduri (Ameduri Motorsports), Joe Chalmers (Team BCM Motorsport:), Brent Vosbergen (Team Vosbergen Racing – TVR) and Warren Oldfield (Oldfield Racing) each grabbing a heat race, while Vosbergen and Chalmers would do enough in their second heats to start on the front row together.

Brent and Joe were side by side off the line as the feature race began, Brent grabbing the lead, but it didn’t go to plan from that moment, Brent going sideways, drifting high and slowing into turn two, the whole field passing him and competing the lap before the yellows came on. At this point, Vosbergen was stranded in turn three and out of the race with what was later announced as a broken driveshaft.

Jason Oldfield was the man who had grabbed the lead with Vosbergen’s demise as the first lap was completed, and he would lead away the restart chased by Joe Chalmers, Jamie Oldfield and Warren Oldfield.

They would be the four cars who maintained their positions as behind them plenty of cars tussled for position.

On lap four Jamie went low on Joe but couldn’t make the move stick, Chalmers in an Oldfield sandwich as he was surrounded and under pressure.

Behind them Brad Blake had made his way into fifth by lap five after starting in position nine, the yellows coming on shortly after as Peter Walker spun in turn two.

Jason would again pace the field and with Chalmers having picked the outside for the double file restart once again, it didn’t pay off the same as last time as Jamie passed him inside and then Warren got by him shortly after, the Oldfield brothers again in the top three positions for the second time in as many meetings.

Jamie and Warren went side by side for second while behind them Blake was pressuring Chalmers for fourth, a number of battles breaking out through the field. Unfortunately, there was some contact, that saw both David Boyes (Boyes Motorsport) and Rod Musarra (@teamrocket) pulling to the infield.

Back up-front Warren grabbed second from Jamie on lap ten, with the yellows coming out a lap later for Abbey Pickering (All About Racing who spun to a stop in turn two.

Jason again paced the field with his brothers forming the second row behind him and they maintained that order as the race went back under green flag conditions, while Blake continued to apply the blowtorch to Chalmers, eventually getting by him with just over half of the race remaining.

As the laps ticked to the exact halfway mark it was still Jason pacing Warren and Jamie, but Warren had definitely closed the gap once again, the lead pack lucky to avoid a spinning Pickering who mounted the curb in turn two in front of the leaders but was able to continue.

The yellows came on a few laps later though as Pickering pulled infield while Damian Hudson (Hudson Racing Team) also had a moment in turn two but was able to continue, bunching the field up once again.

Jamie shot back by Warren on the inside as the race resumed, but again Warren powered around the outside to retake the position, with Chalmers doing the same to pass Blake for fourth once again.

Chalmers was now all over the tail of Jamie Oldfield, a couple of very close moves on laps twenty-one and twenty-two seeing Chalmers grab the position and Jamie now in position to try and squeeze back by.

With twenty-three complete Chalmers and Jamie crossed the line in a dead head but a lap later Blake made his presence felt and split the duo, moving into fourth behind Chalmers and ahead of Jamie.

Up front Warren had again closed the gap on Jason with five remaining, and lap after lap was desperately trying to get by, a lapped car closing them up even more with just two laps remaining, just 0.107 seconds apart.

Jason was able to continue the momentum though and regain control at the point, and despite more lapped cars on the final circulation, was still able to race through for his third ever Pro Dirt Series victory.

Warren would hold on for second while Chalmers would finish an exciting race in third place while Blake and Jamie Oldfield would round out the top five.

With the night’s results tallied, Jason and Warren are tied for Track Championship lead while Jamie rounds out the top three, while points for the Pro Dirt Series will be released tomorrow.
