It All Comes Down to This

This Saturday night at the Perth Motorplex will see the final event of the season for the Late Models and with nineteen cars on track desperate to gain points for two Championships, it is sure to be a huge battle.

As it stands, the top ten cars in the Perth Motorplex Track Championship are currently separated by less than one hundred points. This means that there is much room for movement in the overall standings: at this stage led by Jamie Oldfield by just twelve points over Michael Holmes while Warren Oldfield and Kye Blight are tied twenty two points behind in third.

Of course, the Perth Motorplex Track Championship is not the only thing on the line this weekend, with the event also doubling as the final round of the Maxima Oils Pro Dirt Series. As it stands, Warren Oldfield leads Jamie by just three points in the race for series glory. They are closely followed by Kye Blight who is just six points further back in third while Brad Blake, who was previously leading the series, has dropped to fourth but is still in contention.

In speedway racing absolutely anything can happen, so with the points so tight and with nineteen cars nominated, it has all the potential to be yet another night of world class, high intensity speedway action.

In last year’s Gold Cup event it was Jamie Oldfield who led home Brad Blake and Jay Cardy in the final and that is something that he will be desperate to do once again. A DNF in the last feature at the venue cost him dearly and a win would all but secure at least one of the series’.

He will be challenged by the likes of Warren Oldfield, Brad Blake and Kye Blight who are all desperate for points, while names the ilk of Jay Cardy, Matt Goodlad and Ryan Halliday are also sure to test the front runners.

Morgan Melvin makes one of his rare appearances for this season and he will be hoping to finish his season on a high, as will others like Veronica McCann and Hayden Norman.

As was the case last year, the night will also be rounded out by the Carbusters Demo Derby. A number of Late Model drivers have entered for the event, which was actually taken out by Warren Oldfield this time last year, and we wish them all well for the event.

With this being the last chance this season to see the thunder and lightning brigade in action, it would be remiss of anyone to miss it!

See ya trackside!
