Back at it for The General!

The Late Models will have had very little rest this week as they now look forward to the annual John Day Classic at the Perth Motorplex, which will this Saturday night double as Round Five of the Pro Dirt Series, proudly presented by Maddington Toyota and CanningVale Toyota.
A good field of twenty-two nominations have now been received for the event, with quality spread right throughout the field.
Last year’s winner Matt Goodlad (Daytona Racing) has nominated for the event, looking to become a three-time winner after his first win in the event in the inaugural year. Goodlad is again running a limited schedule this year, but every time he hits the track, he is certainly a threat, and this weekend should be no different.
Other former winners of the event in the field include Brad Blake and Kye Blight (Kye Blight Racing), both of whom have had a tough start to the season. At the last show at the Motorplex, Blight was leading the feature only to be forced infield with issues, while Blake suffered mechanical woes at the last show and was unable to even start the feature.
All the regulars are also in this weekend’s field, including Esperance standout Joe Chalmers (Team BCM Motorsport:), Kalgoorlie winner and overall points leader Warren Oldfield (Oldfield Racing), Jason Oldfield (Oldfield Racing) and Jamie Oldfield (Oldfield Racing) who have five podium finishes between them so far this season, the consistent Jay Cardy (Cardy Racing Components) and Brent Vosbergen (Team Vosbergen Racing – TVR), who has been right on the pace but can’t yet convert it into a feature win in 2022/23. All six of these drivers have claimed Pro Dirt feature wins and would dearly love to get another one this weekend, fighting particularly hard in memory of ‘The General’.
There are plenty of drivers with plenty to do ahead of this weekend, with a bruising two-night affair last weekend at Esperance and Kalgoorlie. Michael Holmes (Michael Holmes Racing) and Rod Musarra (@Teamrocket) are both in a race against time to get their engine woes sorted, while names like Kodee Brown (McCorry Brown Racing Team), Matt Nylander (Nylander Motorsport), David Boyes (Boyes Motorsport), Nathan Richards and Damian Hudson (Hudson Racing Team) will be burning the midnight oil to get their own issues sorted.
Luke Halliday (CTM Recruitment Racing), Veronica McCann (Veronica McCann – Red Hot Racing), Ken Macpherson (KMM – Ken Macpherson Motorsport) and David Nylander (Nylander Motorsport) also re-join the field after missing the last few shows and after sitting on the sidelines, they too will be chomping at the bit to record a big result come feature race time on Saturday night.
Finally, we welcome Warren Minshull back to the series for the first time this season on Saturday night, while rookie Chris Barrow (Barrow Motorsports) has also nominated for his first attempt at a Pro Dirt show, having completed plenty of practice laps at both the Motorplex and Bunbury venues.
It is going to be a huge night of racing for the Late Models once again, with two heats per driver leading into the all-important thirty lap feature that is sure to have huge ramifications on the overall Pro Dirt Series points!
