Are You Ready Albany?!?!
After last weekend’s high quality, fast paced, wheel to wheel action, one could be forgiven for thinking that the Late Model Sedan division would be needing to take a break…. How wrong would they be?!?!
The Invasion Tour continues again this weekend with not one, but two more rounds of the Rando’s Cane Furniture Invasion Tour and all the stars and their cars are ready to go once more!
A great field of twenty four nominations has been received for the Albany Speedway round to be held this Saturday night, the 24th of January, while Manjimup Speedway will be holding the fourth and final round of the tour this Sunday night!
Headlining the list for Albany is of course the Invasion Tour point leader, ‘The Kentucky Colonel’ Steve Francis. Francis has won both feature races of the tour so far, besting Jamie Oldfield and Jeep Van Wormer in a brilliant feature race at QUIT Collie Speedway last Friday night, then defeating Van Wormer and Devin Moran in another solid drive the following night at QUIT Bunbury Speedway. The big question on everyone’s lips now is can Francis grab the final two rounds? Or is it possible that someone may end his dominance?
Of course fellow Americans Jeep Van Wormer, Devin Moran and George Lee will all be licking their lips in anticipation of hitting the clay way once again and will only have revenge on their minds as they search for their first feature wins of their down under tour.
Not only are the Americans wanting a win, but the local brigade are looking to improve their results, none more than Jamie Oldfield. After coming second in the first nights competition Oldfield was sitting strongly in the points before being struck down by a bee sting in hot laps at Bunbury and missing the entire night’s competition. Although he may be well down the points standings, Jamie will settle for nothing less than a win and one thing is for sure: he is fired up!
Other Aussies who will be looking to do well include Brad Blake and Jason Oldfield, both of whom are sitting in the top five of the series standings. The pair have consistently recorded solid finishes, with both also grabbing the Octane Fuels Hard Charger Award one night each. If they can have a solid run through the heats and secure a solid starting spot in the feature, they will certainly be in with a massive chance of claiming the feature win.
Kye Blight impressed many at Bunbury, qualifying on the outside second row for the feature and will be looking to go even better this weekend at his home track, while Paul Stubber, who currently sits sixth in the points standings, as well as Matt Goodlad, Jay Cardy and Lee Watt who all figure inside the top ten, will be hoping to consolidate and build on these positions.
The Late Models always put on a show at Albany, so make sure you get your backside trackside to see some of the best that WA and the USA have to offer!
