With the days counting down for this season’s rendition of the USA Invasion Tour we thought it was time to give you more information about the event, including more news about the drivers as the 2016 silly season has commenced in America, with all three of the drivers making news during this off season.
First of all we will talk about Steve Francis, after what has been a difficult season result wise in his high standard, the hall of fame driver has unable to take a national series victory throughout the 2015 and 2016 season and after a freak accident at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, Illinois where he missed serveral weeks due to a face injury, Francis finished 11th in the ultra-competitive Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model Series for 2016.
For 2017, Francis will resume fielding his own race team after spending the last five seasons as a hired driver. Driving a Capital Race Car for the upcoming season, Francis leaves the hired driver roll after spending last five seasons driving for Tim Logan Racing (2016) Clint Bowyer Racing (2013-15) and the Barry Wright House Car (2012).
Francis will be again back behind the wheel of the Michael Holmes Racing Barry Wright Chassis for his first Australian tour in two years.
Middleburg, Florida’s Jason Fitzgerald has also made news during the off season, at the Performance Racing Industry Show at Indianapolis, Indiana, Fitzgerald and his company Fitz Factory have formed a brand new partnership with Longhorn Chassis.
Partnered with friend and fellow Dirt Late Model competitor Earl Person Jr, Fitzgerald in his new partnership will act as the ‘House Car South’ representative but will also help service clientele not just in the Florida area but across the entire country.
Fitzgerald will drive the GRT Chassis for Halliday Racing in what would be his first trip to Australia.
Dresden, Ohio driver Devin Moran was the other driver making headways at this year’s PRI Show with the 22 year old driver forming a new partnership with Tye Twarog Racing for 2017, seeing the team fight for World of Outlaws Craftman Late Series Rookie of the Year title.
Twarog who fielded cars for fellow former Australian visitor Steve Casebolt for 2016, will supply two new Rocket XR1 Chassis for Moran, with Hall of Fame father Donnie and brother Wylie as they will be servicing Devin as co-crew chiefs.
Devin will be back behind the wheel of the Revelution Chassis for Moyle Race Parts and Jason Moyle Racing, the same team Moran drove for in his last trip to Australia two years ago.
